The Memory Palace Series – a means for storing and remembering information and forging images. They are holders of memory, archetypes, symbols, and personal myth. They contain site-specific natural light installations - the Seraph Series - cyclical in form according to the atmosphere and position of the sun. The work begins to be when the sun rises and ceases to be at dusk. The form of the work is also concerned with the response to environment: the possibility of extending one’s perception to a series of events within the world.

 

In the absence of the viewer-participant, life-sized terracotta figurative sculptures are incorporated within, or enclosing as portals. These remain, similar in concept to the ancient Egyptian Ka, as an image that holds the spirit of the person.

 

Vera Manzi-Schacht is a professor of Art and Art History at the New York Institute of Technology and has her studio in Long Island City.
