Aima Saint Hunon installation at Under the Oven Gallery

Under the Oven Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of LOULAPOP, an immersive multimedia installation by artist Aima Saint Hunon in collaboration with lighting designer Emmanuel Gambin. Saturated in light, color, and sweetness, Saint Hunon’s LOULAPOP constructs a fantastical world predicated on gender equity through sensual play. Saint Hunon flirts with material and symbolic duality, apposing bronze figures and spritely 3D-printed forms, oil paintings with trance-like illuminations, ecstatically uniting themes of feminine power and sacred masculinity.

Judith Peck Environmental Sculpture TSUNAMI in Leonia, NJ

Judith Peck's Environmental Sculpture TSUNAMI on view at SCULPTURE FOR LEONIA, located at the corner of Station Parkway and Fort Lee Road in Leonia, New Jersey. Created in fiberglass and resin, painted in acrylics, and supported with iron rods on a 5-section wood base. The sculpture measures 20 feet long by 7 feet high and 6 feet deep. Studio Visit | June Ahrens

Large sheets of reflective Mylar covered the floor of June Ahrens’ studio, casting thin, white ribbons around the walls. As the afternoon light shifted in the space, the reflections began to resemble the shimmering surface of a pool or lake with ripples of water, yielding a predictable sense of calm. Suspended from the ceiling were over two hundred wire and rope strands interspersed with knotted bundles representing flowers and thorns in a “symbolic garden.” Some were loose and sprawling, while others seemed tightly bound like a nest. These elements comprised a mock-up of Ahrens’ upcoming installation How Many Tears Are Enough? at the University of Connecticut’s Stamford Gallery, opening this October. READ MORE

Crashing the Party, curated by Barbara O’Brien, presents a wide range of interpretations of and responses to the idea and ideals of gender equity, from breaking the “glass ceiling” to political, social, physical, and conceptual ideas. This exhibition features work from sculptors who are questioning and expanding their use of materials, forms, concepts and experiences. The Sculptors Guild in partnership with LIC-A is interested in supporting a creative platform to expand and broaden opportunities for all sculptors. “What’s now?” and “What’s next?”

Eric David Laxman has completed "Concentric Conversation", his first NYC commission for the lobby of the Helena Building, a high-end luxury apartment complex owned by the Durst Organization and managed by CHASHAMA. David was selected in an open competition for artist proposals.

Crashing the Party invites a wide range of interpretations of and responses to the idea and ideals of gender equity, from breaking the “glass ceiling” to political, social, physical, and conceptual ideas. This exhibition will offer an opportunity for sculptors who are questioning and expanding their use of materials, forms, concepts and experiences.

The Sculptors Guild in partnership with LiC-A is interested in supporting a creative platform to expand and broaden opportunities for all sculptors. “What’s now?” and “What’s next?”

Submission Details: Artists can submit up to three artworks with three views per submission.

Accepted Mediums: Sculpture, installation, performance, interactive, and works beyond the pedestal strongly encouraged. The 12,000 square foot gallery has 20’ high ceilings and welcomes large works and installations. Submissions of outdoor sculpture to be sited on land or water are also acceptable, as the Plaxall Gallery is situated on the waterfront of the Anable Basin. Visit the gallery during open hours to see the location.

This exhibition is open to all New York City affiliated artists living, working or connected with a NYC organization.

Howard Kalish Open Studios in Greenpoint and Exhibition at Long Island Museum in June

Howard Kalish will be participating in Greenpoint Open Studios on Saturday and Sunday, June 8 & 9. His studio is located at 221 Banker Street, Brooklyn 11222 (the L train is running slower than usual, but there is usually ample parking nearby). MORE INFO
